What To Do

What to do after you have been involved in a crash! I admit this guy is a bit animated but gives you good advice. I also encourage you to get the officers name and ask for a report number. Almost all departments can provide that at the time of the crash investigation.

US 60 Ballard/McCracken Counties

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is developing engineering design plans for a proposed US 60 improvement project near Kevil. The proposed project involves the improvement of roughly six miles of US 60 near the Ballard/McCracken County line, from east of LaCenter to the existing four-lane section east of Kevil. US 60 provides the only east-west designated truck route west of Paducah, connecting to the Ohio River Bridge at Wickliffe. The purpose of the project is to improve mobility and safety for the corridor.

Additional information is available on the new project website found here, including links to provide comments or register for the March 9, 2021, virtual public hearing.

A wide range of alternatives has been studied over the past decades, culminating in the three detailed study alternatives (shown in the image below) alongside the No-Build option. These alternatives were developed to improve mobility and provide a safe connection for the traveling public. A public meeting was held in June 2019 to discuss the alternatives under consideration.

February 10th, 2023Proposed Kentucky bill would fine people for driving too slow in passing lane.

Rep. Ken Upchurch is sponsoring House Bill 105, which was introduced Tuesday. It would fine anyone driving under the speed limit in the farthest left lane. The proposed law would apply to interstates and multi-lane highways with regard to passing other vehicles on the road. As for the penalty for violating the traffic law, the fine would be $25 and would be pre-payable.

Transportation Secretary Jim Gray Issues Official Order to Facilitate Distribution and Delivery of Livestock Feed and Poultry

Severe winter weather has caused supply chain delays

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2023) – Kentucky Transportation Secretary Jim Gray has signed an official order to temporarily suspend certain restrictions on motor carriers that will be engaged in transporting livestock feed and live poultry.

“Severe winter weather across the nation has caused transportation delays that have contributed to a tightening supply of livestock feed, particularly poultry feed, and live poultry for processing,” Secretary Gray said. “This order is to help resolve those distribution and delivery problems.”

The order is effective through 12:01 a.m. EST on March 2, 2023. It temporarily relieves commercial drivers from maximum driving times and weigh station stops if transporting feed and live poultry.

To ensure the safety of the traveling public, carriers must comply with safety requirements and have a copy of the order in the truck cab if operating under the authority of the official order.

I get asked about the left lane drivers all the time. Here is what Arkansas is doing about it. Holding the left lane in Kentucky is also against the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

Roundabouts have been around for a long time but are more common in our area and the new Friendship Road project will have a these.

Blind spots that truckers have that you might not realize.

Hydroplaning is the cause of most crashes during so please turn off your cruise controls when its raining.

Try this when you are at an intersection before you pull out on green. Make sure it’s clear by adding a 1 -2 second delay.

Distracted Driving is a leading cause of crashes on our highways. Put the phones away and arrive safely to your destination.

US 51 Ohio River Bridge aka Cairo Bridge

Daytime Lane Restriction Planned on U.S. 51 Ohio River ‘Cairo’ Bridge Starting Friday, Jan. 3

Work estimated to take 10 days to complete

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning a daytime, work zone lane restriction on the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill., starting at 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.

A crew will be replacing deck railing along the bridge. Motorists should be prepared to encounter one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Delays are possible.

Weather permitting, this work zone is expected to be in place during daylight hours for about 10 days.

KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates on this project.

The existing U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Wickliffe, Ky., and Cairo, Ill., carries U.S. 51, U.S. 60, and U.S. 62 traffic across the Ohio River at U.S. 51 Kentucky mile point 7.372 and Illinois mile point 0.0. Also known as The Cairo Bridge, it is the longest bridge in Kentucky and the westernmost bridge over the Ohio River.

The bridge carries about 5,300 vehicles per day between Kentucky and Illinois. About 44 percent of the traffic is commercial trucks.

The U.S. 51 Bridge Replacement Project is now in the Final Design stage. Next steps include additional geotechnical exploration and analysis, environmental permitting, Right of Way acquisition, final hydraulics analysis, detailed roadway and bridge design, and the development of construction plans.
